My two daughters have been begging my wife and me for a pet dog for years. While we are both dog lovers, the thought of adding another set of responsibilities to our already busy lives always gave us pause (or "paws" if you like a bad pun). We bought some time when my parents got their Golden Doodle puppy 2.5 years ago and my girls claimed her as their own, but it was only a matter of time before they wanted the real full-time deal at our house. When my brother and his wife got their pug puppy back in February, we knew we were in trouble; the time had come for us to take the leap into pet ownership.

There was a pet adoption fair happening in Brea, and since I had to show some properties to a client, my wife took my daughters to the fair with my blessing to bring a dog home if they found the perfect one. A few hours later, I received a phone call that the perfect dog was heading back to our house in the backseat of the car.

Naming your pet is always hard, but when you have two competitive daughters like me, the best name is the one they both agree on. The agreed-upon name was “Ube.” Ube gets her name from the Filipino Purple Yam that has become a very trendy dessert flavor for foodies here in Southern California. My daughters will both tell you that their favorite food is “Daddy’s Purple Pancakes,” which started as a fun breakfast experiment and has now become such a staple that I have an Amazon subscription delivering Ube jam and extract every two weeks. (They don’t have me wrapped around their finger, do they?) If I’ve got you intrigued, here is the recipe I use: (https://www.thelittleepicurean.com/ube-pancakes/). If normal pancakes no longer cut it after you and your family try these, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Now that I am fully confused whether this blog is about puppies or pancakes, I will leave you with this:

Owning a pet has already brought so much joy to our family, and it’s these kinds of experiences that make a house feel like a home. I love sharing these personal moments with you, our wonderful community of clients, family, and friends. Whether it's finding the perfect pet or the perfect home, it's all about creating lasting memories with our loved ones.

Building Tomorrow: Robotics, Sustainability, and Resilience in Future Homes

From robotics to sustainability, discover the cutting-edge elements shaping the future of home design and construction.

  • In 2024, a new trend developed. Rates have been stubbornly high for nearly two years, and many homeowners are tired of waiting for them to fall. The deficiency in home sellers over the past couple of years meant that many owners had placed their desire to sell on hold. They want to sell for a variety of reasons. Empty nesters want to downsize. Growing families want a larger home with a yard. Others want to relocate closer to their kids. There are a number of reasons people want to move, and they do not want to sit on the sidelines forever. So, in 2024, even though rates have remained high, more homeowners are finally coming on the market.
  • There were 18% more new listings through April compared to last year, which is an additional 1,396 FOR-SALE signs. While there is still an overabundance of homeowners sitting on the sidelines hunkering down, the extra signs compared to last year are a welcome step in the right direction for an inventory starved for more choices. In April, there were 28% more sellers compared to April 2023, the largest year-over-year rise so far. That is over 600 more new listings.
